Applying for Accommodation

Only full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University of Sydney (and affiliated campuses) are eligible to move into STUCCO. Application is through a series of meetings and interviews. You must attend 3 meetings before you are eligible, and one of these must be a General Meeting. The other 2 can be a combination of committee, StuccoSoc or General Meetings. You can see the schedule of the next meeting times here.

At one of these meetings (or whenever you feel like dropping in) you will need to pick up an application form. This is our record of your interest, and when a room becomes available we will contact you for an interview, so be sure that you include your phone number(s). No waiting list as such is kept, only a pool of interested persons, each of whom are contacted when a vacancy arises.

You may wish to download a copy of the Stucco Application Form to bring into the next meeting you attend. If you have Microsoft Word, download it here (size: 0.8MB).
(Note: If the document annoyingly opens in your browser, right-click it and choose "Save Target As.." or "Save Link As..." to save it to disk.)

Interviews
The interview process is an informal, friendly chat between you and the members of the unit of which there is a vacancy, plus one or two people from the membership committee to help guide the interview. The basic purpose is for the members of the unit to learn a bit more about you and determine whether or not you are the right person for their household. Obviously, this also gives you a chance to learn a little more about the people you might be living with, the way in which the unit runs and what would be expected of you. These are all crucial considerations that must be taken into account before you move in, should you be offered a place. Some questions you will be asked pertain to your general lifestyle, your interests and hobbies, why you want to be involved in the cooperative, etc.

All units are different in the way they are run and the people that live there, so you may not be accepted in your first interview. The moral here is - don't give up! Sometimes it takes people numerous interviews before they find a suitable unit, and new places come up pretty regularly. If you are unsuccessful, then membership will retain your application indefinitely and continue to notify you when vacancies arise. Even if you have reached your 3 meeting quota then it is a good idea to continue to attend General Meetings (held every 15 days) so as to demonstrate your enthusiasm and keep up to date with the goings on of STUCCO.
